interactive mobile app

Fotstats is a project that I worked on in my free time. It is based off a soccer app called FotMob that I use almost everyday! Using Figma I was able to design a more user friendly version of FotMob. Using this app for almost 4 years, I recognized some painpoints that could significantly improve the app!

Target Audience

The audience for soccer is incredibly diverse, with people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds enjoying the sport worldwide. Soccer has a broad appeal due to its simplicity and accessibility, making it popular among children and adults alike. The World Cup, held every four years, is one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Super Bowl LVII had a total of 114 million viewers compared to the Qatar 2022 World Cup Final with 1.5 billion viewers, further cementing soccer's place as the most popular sport on the planet.

The app caters to a global audience, covering various leagues and competitions from different countries and regions. FotStat's target audience includes casual fans who want to stay informed about the latest scores and news, as well as more dedicated fans who follow specific teams or leagues closely.

Challenges

Some challenges that I came across or saw with FotMob:

  • It is not very friendly with first time users.

  • Even as a regular user of the app, it is easy to be overwhelmed with all the game stats. There are over 200 soccer leagues in the world. Most soccer fans are interested in only 5 leagues.

  • There are game stats that I am not interested that are displayed. In example, User A may not be interested in the Portuguese league Liga Portugal, but still see the games and scores of that league.

Initial Rough Draft

  • On the home page, leagues are collapsable so the user will not have to see all the leagues that are playing that day.

  • A favorites category at the top. Easy access and display for the teams that you love.

  • A favorites page to quickly see all the teams and players you love.

  • This page also shows you when they play their next match.

  • Once you click on a match, it will take you to this page. This match information page will show you important highlights like when they scored a goal and quick stats.

Final Thoughts

As this was one of my first personal UI/UX design project, I am aware that there is a lot of room for improvement. Being able to critically think about the users interaction with an app that I use everyday was very interesting and fun. As a heavy user of the app, I was able to see the app in a way that I usually don’t when I am using it. One thing that I can say proudly is that I was able to make the app more user friendly. I am always open for feedback and would love to hear your feedback!
