Thompson Hospitality Web Design

As a user experience designer at Thompson Hospitality - the largest minority-owned food service management company - one of my major responsibilities is the design and implementation of any new pages the business decides to add. The 2024-2025 theme is Luxeathon! We understood that the school year can be like a marathon for its challenging nature, required endurance, and mental fortitude. That is why we created the Luxeathon, so we can help the students go through these challenging times in luxury! Luxeathon emphasizes three pillars of success: nurturing the mind, strengthening the body, and fostering a supportive community!

The work included following a new brand guide, laying out the information architecture, and creating user-friendly and visually pleasing web pages for both desktop, mobile and tablet.

Strategy & UX

A large portion of the work on this project was rooted in strategy, the message we wanted to convey as well as visual design. Thompson Hospitality Campus Dining is known for living the LuxeLife with luxurious dining options for college students. We wanted to make sure it also translated to this year’s theme.

Finding the best way to communicate clearly to college students involved in-depth work with the vice president of marketing and school district managers. There was a notable amount of discussion that went into understanding the objective of the pages and information architecture.

Prototype

After understanding our strategy and branding, I hopped on adobe XD to create the following pages for this year’s theme. Our team decided to create three new pages for this year. A page that explains our campaign, a wellness page and a sustainability page.

Below, you can view my basic blueprint of the pages. My main focus during this step was the structure. The color, font, and media was not important to me at the moment.

A grayscale infographic or presentation slide with multiple sections of placeholder text and image placeholders, including a logo at the top, various text blocks, image placeholders with icons, and labeled 'Mile Marker' points along a timeline or process flow.
Wireframe layout of a website with placeholder images and text sections, including a navigation menu, multiple image placeholders, text blocks, and a contact form.

Creating New Branding

Thompson Hospitality campus dining has its own brand guide that I have been using during my time at this company. However, for this years theme, we decided to create a new brand guide.

Our goal was to create something that stood out and the key word our vice president said was “refreshing.” Working closely with the senior graphic designer we decided that blues and purples would be appropriate for this theme. This whole theme is about nurturing the mind, strengthening the body, and fostering a supportive community while keeping it luxurious. Blues represents health and wellness and purple represents loyalty and luxury.

Final Design

Once I recieved the green light from my boss, I went on our website builder platform to build the pages out. Below you can see the three pages in its final form!

A person jogging outdoors on a trail in a yellow jacket and black shorts.
A webpage showcasing environmental and community initiatives, featuring images of diverse people participating in activities like planting, teamwork, and outdoor gatherings, with sections on sustainability, waste reduction, eco-friendly dining, and monthly environmental events.
A wellness and fitness newsletter featuring images of people exercising, practicing yoga, and healthy eating, with sections on nutrition, wellness education, and monthly wellness tips.

Unfortunately as of Fall 2025, I led a full site migration so these pages are no longer live.
